Great American Songbook – Song of the Day – If I Only Had A Brain – Harry Connick Jr.
Great American Songbook – Song of the Day – Cheek to Cheek – Fred Astaire
Great American Songbook – Song of the Day – Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered – Doris Day
Great American Songbook – Song of the Day – Fly Me To The Moon – Frank Sinatra
Song Spotlight – In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning – Johnny Hartman
Frank Sinatra made this song famous. But I like this version better. I don’t understand why Johnny Hartman wasn’t a bigger star? Was it because Nat King Cole came along with his smooth baritone first and there was only room on stages for one black man at a time? Because honestly, of the many many performers of the Great American Songbook, Johnny Hartman is one of my favorites.
Song Spotlight – Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered – Doris Day
I’ve been listening to a lot of the Great American Songbook lately. Originally just called Bewitched in the 1940’s production of Pal Joey, Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered is one of Rogers and Hart’s most enduring standards. It has been performed by all of the major peformers of the time. I happen to like this one a lot.
